3D Computer Assisted Design (3D CAD) is a virtual 3D environment where objects with volume called part models are created by sketching in 2D on a flat plane and then extruding that sketch perpendicularly to add depth. Additional extrusions and cuts can be made as needed and the assignment of material properties can be used to determine attributes such as weight and strength. At 3Design CAD, we primarily use parametric software, meaning the model automatically updates its shape or size when the key dimensions change. We can even link spreadsheets with various dimensions, relationships, and other data to control and manage multiple part configurations. These files can then drive CNC machines for cutting, milling, 3D printing, etc. with high precision. Since we verify and input all dimensions and data for our virtual models, we can be confident the CNC-produced parts will perform well in real-world applications.
3D part models can also be combined in a virtual workspace with relationships known as "mates" to form assembly models. 3Design staff have built or used assembly models frequently to evaluate configuration and operability of machinery, buildings, boats, mechanical and structural repairs, and more. 3D CAD excels at detecting problems like mechanical interference, which reduces or eliminates the need for costly material- and time-consuming physical prototyping. As with parts models, 3D assembly models are parametrically driven and can be easily modifed by changing dimensions or relations, and multiple configurations can also be driven with spreadsheet data.
2 dimensional electronic DRAWINGS can be generated from all of the software used by 3DesignCAD to manage building, development or manufacturing. These drawings are automatically updated whenever a change is made to a part or assembly model they describe and can be exported and transmitted as easily printable .pdf documents.

I started 3DesignCAD to create a crucial link between people who need something designed, built, made, or repaired and the CNC solutions—like plasma, waterjet, and laser cutting, multi-axis machining, and 3D printing—that are now a regular part of our world.
